Finding Grit

I remember it like it was yesterday. But it wasn’t, it was 9 years ago this month.

I had arrived at my very first networking meeting. Where everyone had to stand up and tell a room full of people who you were and what you did.

I was a month old entrepreneur and I sat in the very last row, right next to the door. 👉 purposely.

I watched the room and watched how everyone was standing up and I started to feel very anxious. My turn was coming up soon.

My internal dialogue went something like this, you can still leave, no one will ever know, you can always go to the next one.

Then at that exact moment it was my turn to make my impression.

I stood up, and did it. And did it well. I had practiced my pitch for days. I killed it!

It turns out I did more than a good job, because I walked away with a few potential gigs, and most importantly, I had more confidence than ever in my life.

I could have chosen to run, or just go to the next event, instead I fought the fear and since then I’ve spoken at 100s events, big and small over the last 9 years, but ill never forget that first one.

Bottom line: fight the fear, do what scares you most and do it for no one but your highest self.
